visual organization

not directing the audience through a design is misdirecting them
eye movement:

• eye moves left to right top to bottom 
• controlling eye movement within a composition is a matter of directing
•  the natural scanning tendency of the viewers eye the eye tends to gravitate towards areas of complexity 
• first light areas of the composition will attract the eye diagonal lines or edges will guide movement

 optical center:

• the spot where the human eye tends to enter the page.optical center is slightly above mathematical center and just to the left. it takes a compelling element to pul your eyes away from the spot light

z pattern:

• our visual pattern makes a sweep of the page generally in the shape of a "z" 
• effective page design maps a viewers route through the information. the designers objective is to lead the viewer eye to the important elements or information 

fonts:

• no more then two front total in one composition 
• fonts complement each other 
• avoid all upper case 
• choose the right front 
• dont over use fancy or complicated fonts

visual hierarchy-will establish focal point based on their importance a critical part of design process is to establish an order of elements a visual structure 

  the grid-way of organizing content on a page using any combination of margins guide lines rows and column
instituted by modernism can assist the audience by breaking info into manageable chunks and establishing relationships between text and images
design grid consists of a distinct set of alignment based relationship that act as guides for distributing elements across format
every design is different therefore every design will require a different grid structure one that addresses he elements within the design
a grid is used to clarify the message being communicated and to unify the elements

1. improve consistency   
2. ability to plan and time your work 
3. raise the quality of your work 
4. communicate more affectively and in a professional manner 

steps-

1. research-research the client and competition go online look in magazines listen to music pay attention to the world around you.. whatever you need to be inspirited 
2. brainstorm/inspiration-striving to be unique and innovative while still following the current trends, ensures a fresh and creative approach;come up with adjectives  that will describe the design  

• what kind of message am i trying to communicate? 
• who is my audience? 
• what kind of color and or style will work for this audience

      3. sketch-sketch to get your thoughts out and to work through idea
     
      4.  execute- implement your ideas. combine type and imagery,into a well developed composition. utilize design principles and visual organization guidelines to help. try technique,explore possible options,and analyze the outcome. if you get stuck walk away and clear your head.
      5. critique and revise- take a step away and loo at your design with an objective eye. make sure the design effectively conveys the message to the intended audience. if it doesn't work go back and tweak the composition until it does!ask for others opinions will help the process.

leading lines- use the lines created within the foreground or background of the composition to lead the views eye through the photo 
lines can draw attention to one or more intended subject or a single focal point
point of view- change the way your subject is perceived by changing the camera position  
if you want the subject to seem very tall,compose the shot so that camera is looking upward

simplicity-keep your background simple and clear of clutter 
the mood and the effectiveness of a photo can be altered by what is in the background 
a chaotic composition will cause the viewer to look away
